American Airlines is set to elevate its transatlantic network from Miami International Airport (MIA) in summer 2025 with its inaugural service to Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and increased daily flights to London Heathrow (LHR). This significant expansion aims to strengthen connections between North America and Europe, positioning Miami as a key international travel hub.
“I am proud to celebrate our largest flying partner, American Airlines, and their announcement to strengthen its transatlantic network at MIA. This expansion reflects Miami-Dade County’s growth as a key link between North America, Europe, and beyond. We appreciate American Airlines for their ongoing commitment to the Miami market and look forward to welcoming even more of their travelers to our community.” said Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade County Mayor.
The expansion will bring two daily flights between Miami and London Heathrow starting next summer. Through American’s extensive network and partnership with joint business partners, travelers will gain seamless access to over 175 destinations across Europe, streamlining itineraries and offering more convenient travel options.
“As Miami’s Hometown Airline, we are proud to strengthen our commitment to providing customers with more options out of MIA. Our rapidly expanding network is a testament to our commitment to Greater Miami. We are flying our largest schedule on record, with over 400 flights a day to more than 155 destinations around the world, providing our customers with an unparalleled network.” said American Airlines Vice President of MIA Operations Juan Carlos Liscano.
In addition to London, American will also launch its inaugural service to Rome from MIA, a service originally scheduled to start later but now commencing on June 5. This early launch allows American’s customers to explore Italy’s rich history and culture next summer, enhancing Miami’s position as a top destination for international travel.
Beyond Rome and London, American’s European network from MIA includes year-round flights to Barcelona, Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), and Madrid. American Airlines stands as the sole U.S. carrier offering direct service from Miami to both CDG and FCO, providing unparalleled access to these premier European destinations.
As Miami International Airport sees record international traffic, with significant investments totaling $7 billion in capital improvements and $1.7 billion in maintenance upgrades, it continues to serve as a vital economic powerhouse for Miami-Dade County and the state of Florida. MIA leads U.S. airports in flights to Latin America and the Caribbean and generates over $118 billion in business revenue. Welcoming about 60% of Florida’s international visitors annually, MIA is indeed a major economic driver for the region.
With this expansion, American Airlines is not only responding to the demand for European destinations but also reinforcing MIA’s standing as a vibrant, world-class travel hub, bridging continents and enriching travel experiences for Miami and beyond.
